Our Business PhilosophyOPERATIONAL STATEMENT
St. Mary's Health Studies Academy is committed to providing good quality training in accordance with the guidelines from City and Guilds as the awarding body.
St. Mary's Health Studies Academy staff all has experience of working in residential settings and work places where vulnerable people live so they are sensitive to the need to be unobtrusive, while at the same time ensuring candidates adhere to the standards set.
Our Company and Team
St. Mary's Health Studies Academy training and consultancy services was set up at the end of 2005 following extensive consultation with the local chamber of commerce and the awarding body City and Guilds.
During the time St. Mary's Health Studies Academy has been in operation the team have met a number of people from care sectors who had a slightly "jaundiced" view of training companies and were, in fact, sometimes quite suspicious even though managers and owners were aware of the need for staff to be qualified.
The reasons for this were varied but there were generic themes across organizations;
1. Staff needing to attend colleges for a number of days on a regular basis leaving the manager of the establishment with shifts to cover.
2. Paying for training, including NVQs,that never happened.
3. Employees receiving training that was totally unsuitable especially in the area of Risk Assessment mainly due to the fact that facilitators had an industrial not care background!
4. Assessors taking candidates NVQ portfolios "away for internal verification" for them never to be seen again and managers not being able to contact the person concerned.
5. Every manager/owner that the team has interviewed as part of the Training Needs Analysis highlighted the lack of communication and candidate progress, which meant that come appraisal time the manager could not discuss any areas of concern with employees. 6. Assessors cancelling appointments at the last minute.
At St. Mary's Health Studies Academy we understand the needs of managers as we have all "been there", and know the frustrations of trying to arrange training and run a busy site.
There is a need for some training for NVQ but we come to the site to deliver the underpinning knowledge training.
The assessors work towards seeing candidates every 2 weeks in the initial stage and review the situation as the candidate progresses.
In addition we will ensure that managers receive a monthly update on how the employee is progressing with the award.
The two main partners in St. Mary's Health Studies Academy training have over 35 year's occupational experience in the health and social care sector.
The office manager / administrator have over 25 years of project management experience.
We have a number of specialist trainers and assessors in the field of health and social care work, they have many years experience in care homes, nursing homes, day centres, outreach teams, hospitals, hostels and other care settings throughout England,Scotland and Wales.
